Btw, happy chinese new year! It is the first time I can say I remembered/knew it was coming before it already went by.

Drugs (and I mean the legit (?) kind)

I have been watching hand-over-fist (it seems lately) 60 minutes, 20/20, dateline, nightline, whatever-line-type-news shows past week or so whenever I have time because I enjoy these types of shows at times (and a DVR-ing Mediacenter is pretty convenient as well).  The thesis of the week seems to be about disasters, natural or otherwise, especially with that more recent airplane crash in the Hudson River where everyone was saved.  Anyway, they (the news, I forget which one exactly) cited that neuropeptide Y seems to be the key component in the brain that helps to determine basically whether you will act quickly or not at all.  This directly determines whether you will or will not be safe as well as saving someone from a life or death situation.

On another separate news show, there were discussions of the benefits of using resveratrol, a minute chemical in red wines that can help increase life span, among other things like, oh, “anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, blood-sugar-lowering, chelating and other beneficial cardiovascular effects”.  It is pretty interesting and money that there appears in the horizon a one-of-a-kind drug such as this, but alas, we are getting into interestingly new territories on life.  Apparently GlaxoSmithKline bought the pharmaceutical, Sirtris Pharmaceuticals, for something like three-quarters of a billion dollars.  Interesting.
